What is TraceDots?
TraceDots is a tablet-first tracing app that teaches children how to write uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and Chinese numerals. Each character is broken into numbered guide dots that show the correct stroke order, and the app tracks a forward-only trace so children build the right muscle memory.
What ages is TraceDots designed for?
TraceDots is designed for early learners, typically ages 3–8, who are beginning to recognize and write letters and numbers. Big touch targets and numbered guides make it accessible to children who are just starting to hold a stylus or use their finger on a tablet.
Which characters can my child practice?
TraceDots includes four modes: uppercase letters (A–Z), lowercase letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), and Chinese numerals (一 to 九). Your child can switch between modes at any time with a single tap.
How does the tracing work?
Each character is drawn with numbered dots that mark the stroke order. The start dot is red, the next target turns green as your child traces, and the final dot turns blue. Strokes can only be drawn forward along the correct path, which encourages proper technique.
How do I switch between uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and Chinese numerals?
Tap one of the mode buttons (A, a, 8, 中) at the bottom of the screen. Each mode remembers its own position, so your child picks up right where they left off.
Can I change the background color?
Yes. Open Settings and choose from a palette of soft, kid-friendly pastel colors. TraceDots automatically adjusts the tracing colors so they stay clearly visible on whichever background you pick.
What are auto-advance and wrap-around?
Auto-advance moves to the next character automatically after a stroke is completed. Wrap-around lets the sequence loop from the end back to the beginning. Both options can be toggled on or off in Settings to match your child's pace.
Does TraceDots save progress?
Yes. The current character, mode, and background color are saved on the device, so the app resumes exactly where it was left when reopened.
Does TraceDots need an internet connection?
No. TraceDots is a fully offline app — it does not require a network connection and works anywhere, whether you are at home or on the go.
Does TraceDots collect any data from my child?
No. TraceDots does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. There are no accounts, no logins, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. Everything stays on the device.
Does TraceDots show ads?
No. The app contains no advertising and no third-party trackers, so there are no distractions and nothing inappropriate for young children.
Which devices support TraceDots?
TraceDots is a native app built for iPad and Android tablets. It is optimized for tablet screens so the tracing area is large enough for little hands.
